Service Overview

What's covered, who it's for, when to call.

What it is

Plumbing covers every cold and hot water pipe, drain, fixture and fitting in your home — from the rising main where it enters the property to the last tap, shower and waste pipe. A good plumber understands not just how to fit components, but why systems behave the way they do: why one tap drips, why a hot cylinder takes forever to reheat, why a toilet runs on after flushing. We diagnose first, then fix.

Who it's for

Homeowners with persistent leaks, low pressure, banging pipes or a toilet that won't stop running. Landlords who need a reliable plumber for routine and emergency tenant calls. Families planning a kitchen or bathroom upgrade. Anyone moving in to an older property who wants a sensible plumbing survey before a small problem becomes a flooded ceiling.

When it's needed

Now, not later. Water damage is one of the most expensive problems a home can develop, and almost every plumbing failure starts as a tiny, visible warning sign — a damp patch under a sink, a slow drip from a compression joint, a hairline crack in a flexible hose. The cost of a plumber to investigate is a fraction of the cost of replacing flooring, ceilings or kitchen units after a burst.

Why a professional matters

Plumbing looks simple from a DIY video. It isn't. Joints rated for hot water behave differently to cold; combinations of dissimilar metals corrode; pressure-tested systems behave differently to gravity-fed ones; and a single mis-fit fitting can flood a property in hours. Beyond competence, a professional plumber is insured — meaning if something does go wrong, the bill isn't yours.

The Cost of Waiting

A small leak is rarely a small problem.

The cost of plumbing damage scales exponentially the longer it's left. The most common patterns we see:

  • A slow drip under a sink rots cabinet bases, then floorboards, then ceiling plaster below.
  • A dripping mixer tap wastes 25-40 litres of water per day — and over a year, costs more than the replacement.
  • A toilet that won't stop running adds up to £400 a year to water bills, silently.
  • Low mains pressure is often a corroded stop valve or a partly closed main, fixable in an hour if caught early.

In Depth

Plumbing services we cover, day in day out.

Plumbing is broad — here's the work we do most often, and what's worth knowing before you book.

Leak detection, isolation and repair

Most leaks aren't where the water shows up. A wet ceiling under a bathroom is rarely the bath itself — it's usually a sealant failure, a compression joint, a shower waste or a slow weep on a flexible tap connector hidden in the vanity. We work systematically: isolate, inspect, pressure test, then repair. For concealed leaks we use moisture meters and (where needed) thermal imaging so we don't pull apart any more of the property than necessary.

Taps, mixers, showers and waste

Modern mixer taps and concealed shower valves use ceramic cartridges that wear in cycles of 5-10 years. Symptoms range from drips and stiff handles to a sudden inability to control temperature. For full replacements, we'll spec a unit appropriate to your water pressure (combi vs gravity systems behave very differently) and install with proper isolation valves so future maintenance is easy.

Hot water cylinders & unvented systems

Older gravity-fed cylinders are simple but slow. Modern unvented (mains-pressure) cylinders give powerful showers from every outlet but require specific competencies (G3) to install, service and maintain — and they need annual servicing of the expansion vessel, T&P valve and tundish to remain safe and warrantied. We install and service Megaflo, Range Tribune, Joule and Heatrae Sadia unvented cylinders.

Kitchen, utility & laundry plumbing

Dishwasher and washing machine installs look simple but go wrong often: undersized waste connections, no isolating valves, no anti-flood hoses. A kitchen refit is the time to do plumbing properly — proper isolation on every supply, copper or compliant plastic where suitable, condensate provision for nearby boilers, and waste pipes correctly gradient-fall.

Do you charge a call-out fee?+

Can you fix a leak today?+

We hold same-day slots for urgent leaks. Isolate the supply at your stop tap, call us, and we'll do our best to attend within hours across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas.

A like-for-like kitchen or basin tap replacement is usually 45-90 minutes including testing. Concealed shower mixers can take 2-3 hours depending on access.

Yes — see our bathroom installation service. We can manage the full project including tiling, electrics (via partner sparks) and plastering.
