Before

27-year-old Potterton conventional boiler with vented cylinder taking up the airing cupboard. Pressure dropping weekly, slow hot water, gas bills creeping every winter.

What we did

Worcester Bosch Greenstar combi installed, cylinder removed, scale reducer fitted, smart thermostat commissioned.

Outcome

Hot water on demand. Airing cupboard returned to the customer. Estimated gas bill saving of £180–£240 a year.

Before

Original mid-1990s single-panel radiator on the long wall of a refurbished family bathroom — undersized for the new room volume and visually at odds with the fresh grey tiling.

What we did

Tall white vertical column radiator sized to the room's heat-loss calculation, fitted on relocated tails so the pipework sits flush against the grout lines.

Outcome

Heat output up around 35% and the radiator now reads as part of the bathroom design rather than an afterthought.

Before

Mid-build extension with a 10mm flow loop sized for a small panel radiator the original designer never updated. Output 30% short of room demand.

What we did

Pipework upsized to 15mm, anthracite triple-column radiator installed on new tails through the screed, TRV and lockshield balanced to room volume.

Outcome

Room hits target temperature in 22 minutes instead of an hour. Boiler return temperatures down — true condensing operation restored.

Before

Failed open-vented copper cylinder, low shower pressure throughout the property, header tank in the loft visibly corroded.

What we did

G3-certified install of a Gledhill Stainless ES unvented cylinder, new copper pipework, expansion vessel, tundish and isolation set. Loft tank removed.

Outcome

Mains-pressure hot water at every outlet. Loft cleared. Annual G3 service plan put in place to keep the warranty live.

Before

Original single-panel hallway radiator from the 1990s, undersized for a newly opened-up entrance with herringbone flooring and high ceiling.

What we did

Flat-panel designer radiator sized to the room's heat-loss calculation, chrome TRV, neat surface pipework painted to match skirting.

Outcome

Heat output up 40%, the radiator now reads as part of the joinery. Customer's heating bill held flat despite a colder season.

Before

Tired ensuite with a plastic vanity, push-button concealed cistern and 1990s wall tiles. Customer wanted a period-style refit in a Victorian terrace.

What we did

Burlington-style console basin on chrome legs, low-level WC with wood seat, dark green metro wall tiles, patterned encaustic floor tiles, full re-plumb.

Outcome

A bathroom in keeping with the house. Plumbing reworked to modern standards — quiet refill, no water-hammer, isolators on every supply.

Before

Self-build needing a heating system designed from scratch — open plan downstairs, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, vaulted living space.

What we did

Unvented cylinder with expansion vessel and pump, manifold-fed underfloor heating downstairs, radiator circuit upstairs, all zoned and smart-controlled.

Outcome

One system, two heating strategies, single smart controller. Building Control sign-off first time.

Before

Aspirational kitchen refit on a quartz worktop — needed a Shaws double-bowl Belfast sink and pull-out chrome mixer plumbed for low-pressure mains.

What we did

Sink cradle built into bespoke cabinetry, hot and cold isolators fitted under the sink, mixer plumbed with a pressure-balanced bypass for the pull-out spray.

Outcome

Heritage-look sink with modern function. No drips, no water-hammer, easy future maintenance access.

Before

Victorian terrace cloakroom needing a heated towel rail that wouldn't fight with the William Morris wallpaper and panelling.

What we did

Brushed brass ladder rail installed on the central heating circuit, brass TRV and lockshield matched, surface pipework neatly routed and painted in.

Outcome

A heated towel rail that reads as a fitting, not an appliance. The room balances properly on the rest of the heating system.

Before

Existing flue terminal sat too close to a Velux and a neighbouring boundary — non-compliant under current Gas Safe siting rules and prone to pluming back onto the roof.

What we did

Re-routed flue, new vertical terminal installed through the pitched roof with code-5 lead weather skirt, tested for combustion analyser pass.

Outcome

Flue products clear of every opening, fully Gas Safe compliant, weather-tight roof penetration with a 20-year lead detail.
